ARUP Laboratories Implements UNIFlow™ For Reagent Production Information Management System
Faced with the challenge of semi-automating the information management system of their internal reagent manufacturing operation, ARUP Laboratories knew they had a lot at stake. The University of Utah owned national reference laboratory and it’s internal reagent manufacturing operation supports more than 100 different internal laboratories. There was simply no room for error in automating the information operation, so ARUP turned to UNIConnect for a partnership solution.
The Reagent Laboratory Team supports the exacting requirement of the expansive ARUP organization. The UNIFlow based solution eliminates many manual steps, and is enabling the Reagent Laboratory Team to move from a paper to an electronic information gathering and management process, which better supports the exacting requirements of the expansive ARUP organization. UNIFlow also provides the precise tracking necessary for more than 2,000 different raw materials and over 1,300 production documents required by the ARUP reagent production team.
UNIConnect and ARUP are working together to implement a UNIFlow training and custom software development program that allows for ARUP production personnel to custom-fit UNIFlow to fit their specific production needs. This has resulted in a comprehensive system and transitions the Reagent Lab and internal customers from manual-intensive spreadsheets to an automated solution that integrates with other key platforms. The system also includes special functions such as Freezer Inventory, interfaces to Mettler-Toledo balances and can be formatted to read files generated by Hamilton Star liquid handlers. A key advantage is that these interfaces can all be implemented by ARUP personnel using UNIFlow, without the cost and complication of a third party workaround.
The ARUP reagent production team has embraced the unique advantages offered by the UNIFlow system, which also allows them to explore new realms of development that would otherwise be difficult and in some cases cost prohibitive. Indeed this tool will be deployed in a growing number of production applications in the months and years ahead.
